Starter wires????

On the small terminal of the starter solenoid, you will find a purple wire. This is coming from inside the car, from the theft-deterrant relay. When that TD relay energizes, it applies 12v to that wire, and energizes the starter solenoid, which energizes the starter motor.
On the large solenoid post, the big red cable is a direct run to the + terminal of the battery. The 2 other smaller wires (gray and rust), are control circuit connections that run to the alternator. Since that post on the solenoid is +12v all the time, it's just a more convenient spot for those wires to connect to vs the positive battery connection I guess.
The other large post on the solenoid had a short braided strap which connects to the starter motor itself.
