Default True or False?

I read somewhere on this great forum that one of the "Corvette Secrets" is to click the emergency brake once to turn off the running lights. My '01 doesnt do it. Have I been lied to?

I have heard that also, but never tried it. Also, while moving in reverse if you click the e brake handle that's how you adjust it.

I just pulled the fuse for my daytime running lights. The only drawback being that the rear approach lights don't work when you do this.

it just depends on how easily your limit switch on your emergency brake handle is triggered. It may take two clicks to hit the switch and turn the lights off. Purely a mechanical/physical thing. While parked with the lights on, pull up on the handle one click at a time, giving the relays time to turn off and close the lights between clicks. Then you'll know how many clicks it takes to keep your lights off. Or just turn off your Twilight sentinel option on the DIC.

That won't do anything except keep the headlights and parking lights from turning on and off automatically. I do not use twilight sentinal, anymore, in order to keep from cycling the headlights whenever I garage the car. That does not affect my running lights. They stay on all the time unless the e-brake is engaged, as discussed above.
BTW: I believe the key has to be turned to the "run" position to have the running lights turn off in this manner, but really don't remember. The car is in hibernation or I'd run out and check. There is a particular sequence. Check with someone with a Hypertech Programmer. The way you do it is discussed in the instruction manual. They do engage the parking brake to turn off the running lights in order to minimize battery drawdown while programming. At least it was in the manual for mine when I was using one.

As stated above, the easiest way is to pop the "approach" fuse.
As he said, the only negative is when you hit the remote unlock at night the backup lights to not light-up. However, the taillights, parking lights, turn signal lights, interior lights still turn on. I haven't had any problem finding my car with only these 12 lights turned on. Ha.

On mine the e-brake has to be one click before you put the key in, to disable the DRL's.

I guess I don't understand why one would want to shut off the DRLs. They increase visibility, and for lots of the popular auto colors -- gray, charcoal, silver, black -- they could save your life from some inattentive driver who fails to see you and pulls out in front of you.

Each to their own, but I will leave them operational!

some people disable them because it tends to wear the headlight gears out quicker which are pretty vulnerable already.

The DRLs don't open the headlights. Why would it wear out the gears?

DRL's were made with safety in mind.I guess if we did'nt have it,we would complain for havind to turn on manually.I remember when we alway' drove with the parking brake light on,with our sixties muscle machine's.Don't stress and be safe. Nelson

I tried it and it worked but it did have to be BEFORE I insert the key. After the key was in, and the lights were on, it didn't turn them off.

If you have black covers on... or like me have black tinted signal lenses you don't want the DRLs shining through ruining the look. Thus, pull the #2 fuse and their gone

Uh.....the DRL's have nothing to do with cycling the headlights ON or OFF.

In most states running with "BLACK-OUTS" is illegal anyways. Especially over your turn signals.

DRL's don't have anything to do with the headlights cycling up and down.
