Default passive unlock
i am new at this, but do you by any chance have the passive switch on the key fob on and the reset battery turned on the option in the car? just a wild guess. i am just learning about my 99. good luck.

That switch on the fob was in the on position,and I had it in my tool box near the car.Im not sure what option the car is set on...Im new to these cars too.

You can't leave the fob near the car with passive on, or you'll see just what you saw. Turn it off and see if your symptoms disappear.
