I installed the C6 Z06 shifter in my car today. When I took it for a spin, it rattled in 3rd gear under acceleration. I had the same problem with the Hurst which is why I went back to the stock shifter. I didn't think it would rattle wiith this shifter too. Any suggestions?
I pulled the Hurst for similar reasons and my C6 shifter is dead quiet. Wonder if your transmission shaft is the issue, since the new shifter replaced the whole box (or should have). Wonder if you can clamp a small weight on the shaft where it won't interfere with shifting but would change the vibration frequency.
I read in another post that the fix for a rattle in the C6 was to install the C5 box. The boxes are different. The C5 box has rubber insulated bushings while the C6 box has solid bushings. I didn't want to take any chances so I swapped the shifter to my C5 box. It only had 11,000 miles on it and was in good shape. Should I have put the C6 box in? I thought that the solid bushing mounts would make it louder.
Thanks vettenuts for replying. Where the two torx go through the box are bushings or inserts, They are rubber insulated on the C5 box. Anyhow, I put the 2 inch rubber end cap I bought from Home Depot for my Hurst install back on the fat part of the handle and just took it for a spin. So far so good. It apperars to have quieted down. If it starts to rattle again, I'll put the C6 box back on. I really like this shifter and want to make it work.
