only a handful of companies can successfully place larger ratios in your 2 series case. DTE in Indiana is one.
But check the prices for these internal gear swaps. A brand new GM 3.42 unit can be purchased for $1000. But if you want to go further beyond the 3.42 ratio, then you pretty much have to go with internal gearing changes.

I'm also in the same boat as far as choosing a diff gear ratio. I know that 3.42 is the standard issue for manuals and 2.73 for automatics. I would like to know the difference for manuals. First, Mike Mercury, wher can I get a new 3.42 for $1,000? Best price I have found is $1,200! Second, Slolane what kind of difference did the new diff make?

Every now & then a vendor will special 3.42 brand-new Getrag complete carriers for $1000 (plus shipping). Better yet, buy a low mileage 3.42 from a 6 speed C5 for $400 to 600.

If you have 2.73 gears you can get a set of "thick" 3.73 gears that will work with your carrier. All you have to do is call whoever you are getting the gears from and tell them what size gears you have know and what size you want and they should be able to sell you what you need. It is just that simple.
