Default Tire Sensors Removed

i had after market z06 rims put on my car. is there a way to bypass something so that the warning light for the tire sensors doesnt come on. for the first time today i got another message that was something like REAR L R psi . but i cant remember all of it. im sure it has to do with the fact that the sensors have been removed. can someone tell me what this means and what i need to do to make it so the warning lights for this dont come on.
thanks.

Easiest (and probably cheapest) is to put a set of sensors in your wheels. Most tuners can't do it, since it's not controlled in the PCM, IIRC.

so are you saying that thye just couldnt put them on the replacement wheel? i had stock z06 wheels but had a crack in one and another was whorped. i replaced them with what i thought was stock but to my surprise they are aftermarket. i think they said something about the size . im not sure but i still have the sensors. where could i have these put back on if the tire shop couldnt? whats the cost to have them put back on?
hope this isnt stupid but i really have no idea about this.
the shop could have been telling me a tale, i dont know. i would like to get these messages to stop .
thanks.

I don’t see why your sensors would not work with your new wheels (not familiar with your replacements though). Maybe you need a different shop. The price would be what the cost of breaking down yours tires and a balance would be. Maybe $50 for the pair.

I have been looking up posts on Tire Pressure Monitors for my new Tire and Wheel Combo. Someone had posted that all that was needed was to "break the bead and slip the Sensor in". it was also mentioned that the balance would be OK due to the position of the sensor (close to wheel center section).
I am simply repeating a post, but it does seem logical to me.

With the money you have already invested in wheels and tires you really need to add the tire sensors. The original sensors should have been removed from your old wheels and reinstalled on your new rims, so I am confused on that one. If you have lost the ability to get them back you will need to go to your chevy dealer and pick up a new set, be sure to mention that they will go on new rims so you will need the nut, they do not come complete. You will also need to get the new sensors programed to your car after you mount them. That is pretty simple if you have a magnet and search the forum for the procedure. If you are running runflats I am sure the tires will have to be dismounted to install the sensors - the sidewalls are so stiff they just can not be deflated, and pushed off and down to install the sensors, plus I doubt there would be enough room to installed properly. And as far as balance, I am not sure on this one, but I for one do not have the time or patience to make more than one trip the tire shop. Your call on that one. But for safety sake in my opinion the tire sensors are a must - they will not react fast enough if have total tire failure - but that is rare. - A slow leak will be caught by the sensor and save you from running on a flat and ruining a wheel and the tire. Not to mention the high probability of loss of control if this all happened at the wrong time. Hope that helps !!

You know, it could be something as simple as needing to re-program your sensors; I can't see a shop not installing tire pressure sensors on new wheels (either replacements or the originals).

Check in the C5 Tech Tips section; it has a description in there about how to re-program your sensors.

If your valve stems are metal and have a nut clamping the stem to the wheel, you've probably got the sensors installed. Worth a try, anyway.

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike
