Im new to this information is it true or a wives tale ? A fellow Vette owner heard me talking about lifting my car to put a new performance muffler setup. He advised me to open all my doors ,hood,hatch before lifting and returning to the ground or risk causing a stress crack ?
Is this real or getting my leg pulled ?
It's not a bad idea with a C3 or a C4 - more body flex with these cars. The C5 doesn't flex, has better framing system under it and has well marked lifting points on the frame.
Do yourself a favor and get yourself a lifting puck - see Mid-America Motorworks for two examples (I bought both). Sears sells a great low profile hydrolic jack that you can remove the lift disk and insert the metal puck sold by Mid-America.
You don't need to worry about stress cracks. I have had my car up in the air for days with no problems. Just jack it up properlly at the jacking points using jacking pucks.

would that be safe placing the 2x4 between the crossmembers? Someone said it will bent the frame by doing this. It should just the owner's manual preferred jack points. Any inputs?
