Default magnetic gps antenna

anybody got any ideas where i can mount the magnetic antenna? so far, i am thinking i will have to glue a small, thin magnetic plate to the dash but i am not too creative and the thought kills me! any clever ideas?

3M double sided tape. I put mine at the rear of the hatch and run the wires inside to unit.

Some folks have placed it on the frame/bumper behind the rear fascia.

Default portable gps

i forgot to say that mine is portable so i will need to easily remove the antenna. i guess i will be going with taping or gluing a black metal plate in an inconspicous place on the dash. thanks for all of your help and suggestions.

i guess i could consider an extra antenna though. i'll look at the places you mentioned.

I'd go with a suction cup mount or bean bag mount before I'd glue or tape anything to the dash. That could be a permanent scar.

It will work a bit better on a ground plane if it is a magnetic mount. My Murano has a Fglass tailgate spoiler so I stuck it on a piece of sheet metal inside the spoiler with the XM antenna.

Although my setup is with Sirius radio, the concept is the same as with GPS. I bought a spare antenna for portable use, and put the antenna for the Vette on the frame. You can get to it by removing one of the tail-lights. Since the bumper is plastic or composite, it's virtually invisible as far as satellite signals are concerned.

Interestingly, my GPS gets the very best signal when the antenna is placed up to the headliner, since the the roof is also basically invisible. Sitting on the dash the signal drops, since the winshield blocks satellite signals more than the roof does.

I used 3M tape and mounted it on the rear view mirror. I ran the wires under the trim and down the side post. It's reasonably unobtrusive and gets a good view of the satellites.

i never thought of that. thats why it works on the frame!

in fact, i have a rag top so anywhere in the cockpit should still see the signal right through the top. i had better start taking my smart pills again!
