Default Deciding on a intake manifold???

I've been looking into getting a intake manifold for an 03 Z06 and wanted to know some opinions on which is the best... so far I've been looking at the F.A.S.T LSX...

Stock cubes with small cam and bolt-ons or less I would do LS6 which you have.
Larger cubes or a healthy heads and cam combo you could go Fast 90.

The FAST 90, with a good port job, has been showing gains through the RPM range. Lots of money for the hp though, about $100/hp which is high for a stock car. What mods do you currently have?

This is what I have now... Kooks long tube headers, Kooks X pipe, B&B bullet exhaust, Halltech Stinger intake, 1.85 rockers, comp cams race springs, titanium ret, reduced the pulleys, Diablo programmer. I plan on getting a cam as well but I haven't decided on which one.

Get a Fast 90mm ported by Ron@vengance racing or Tony Mamo@ AFR with a ls2 TB.

Thanks! I looked up vengeance racing online and I think something's wrong with that site... do you know of any other site that carries the Fast 90?

Like most of us you're taking this in steps. I did the same and became a believer in putting my money where it would give me the most bang for the buck. Right now you are at the point where a cam and better heads will give you the most for your money. I would not even consider the FAST LSx unless you go with a 90mm TB. And many do an injector upgrade at the same time. When I did it the Nick Williams TB was the only one out there and it was about $600 bucks. It's cheaper now because of the availability of the LS2 TB.

A cam and a set of AFR 205 heads would add over 80 RWHP to your car depending upon which cam you choose. The FAST is no where close to that and the cam alone will get you at least 40 RWHP over the stock cam.

If you suffer from the need for power as badly as the rest of us do you will eventually need the F.A.S.T.... but not yet.

Do yourself a favor, sit down and put together an honest plan consisting of what you want to do to the car over the long haul. Figure it out right down to the parts you want to use. Then get on the Thunder Racing or Summit Racing site and start finding the parts you need. Both of these sites support what they call a wish list. Put your parts in the wish list and you will get a good picture of what your cost is going to be for each step. Be sure to include the things most people forget, things like valve springs, an oil cooler, a bigger radiator. These and other items are things your car will need to support the extra HP stress and heat that goes along with owning a high performance car.

So how do I know what the heck I’m talking about? Take a look at my parts list.

If you figure a good deal on a new FAST and LS2, without porting you are looking at around $1,050 (new). Then for porting add another, lets say, $500 - $700 to port both depending on who does it. Total outlay is about $1,650 in round numbers. My cam (sans rockers) was about $600 for parts and my Dart heads were $1,300 so for about $300 more than the FAST I picked up almost 80 hp. The point is that the heads/cam will cost about 1/4 of the FAST on a purely hp/$ basis. Your best bang for the buck at this point with the headers you already have would definitely be a cam, that is assuming you are willing to open the motor which some people will not do.

That sounds good! I'll start off with the cam first and hold off on the manifold for now. Any suggestions on a throttle body?

Vengeance charges $275 for porting. You can also get a slightly used Fast for ~$600. I would get a cam though BEFORE the intake. You will not be sacrificing much power with the LS6 intake you already have. When you get ready for heads factor in the intake.

yeah, that black looks freaking awsome. I have a black FRC and will be getting my fast ported and painted like that and then do the rest of the black plastic under the hood like that. I think it will be fine with a black car. Add a little class to the thump of the 402.
