Default Check engine light

I have a 99 FRC, 6 spd., 67,000k. The Check Engine light came on. It does not blink but is just on. My son, (registered mechanic) who did a complete diagnostic can find no faulty codes. Every check comes up clean. I just changed oil about 2 wks ago. I used the same Mobil 1 as recommended. The car does not miss or have any other irregularities. Any advice? Could this be something as simple as needing a new fuel cap?

If your "Check engine" light is on then there is a fault code stored, follow this link to look up your code and then delete it and see if it comes back.

You will probably have several codes so prepare to write them down, you may have to scan thru them a couple of times before you get them all but you'll probably only have 1 thats causing the light to come on.

I remember a thread a few months back on the check engine light coming on with not codes. For the life of me I can't remember the reasons though. I will see if I can find it.

I messed with the gas cap. I took it off and then put it back on. It clicked as normal. Turned the car on and the light went out. I have driven the car for a short distance and the light remains off at this point. Is it really possible that the cap was not sealed properly and it needs to be replaced.

you would still have a fault.be it small evap leak or large.almost sounds like whatever was wrong fixed itself.[50 drive cycles will turn off the light if the fault isn't seen again since originally setting.]
