My HUD is no longer bright...it's so dim it's almost hard to see...this has been a slow progression.
Is this an easy quick cheap fix to bring it back to BRIGHT?...or do I need to replace the whole unit?
Any help in this arena would be appreciated.
I saw somewhere that some HUD units have had problems with a small connection coming loose where the photo cell attaches to the main board. When this happens, the photo cell, which detects how bright it is outside (therefore automatically making the display bright during the day and less bright at night) can't send an appropriate voltage, and the display therefore goes dim.
Try a search on HUD, and hopefully you'll find the instructions. It requires removing the HUD from the car and doing some delicate soldering, so if you're up for that, have at it!! Otherwise, as far as I know, you'll either have to live with this, or replace the HUD unit.
This guy used to have a write-up on fixing the problem (with pictures) but now I can only find his write-up on replacing the photo cell, but this will give you an idea of what you're looking at.
