Default oil pressure

No the map sensor is for the, manifold air pressure, Check the oil make sure its full, Is the engine makeing lifter noises? don't run it untill you have it checked out, could be a bad pump, or just a oil pressure sender.

If the engine is not makeing strange noises,It could just be the sender that operates the guage.

Have it checked out right away, If it is the oil pump, you are doing damage when you run the engine, just the guage your ok just have it replaced,ASAP.

Bob, This happened after I washed the outside of the car. This is the fourth time its happened. The car hesitates, bucks, stalls. This time the MAP sensor low voltage code came up. (thought water was getting in at the base of the windshield to short it out) The oil pump trys to engage, you can hear the switch click, then click again. The oil pressure goes from 0 to 45 and drops again when the switch clicks off. It really pisses me off, cause it starts by washing the car.

I thought the oil pump was direct driven off the engine. If the engine is running, you should have oil pressure.

The MAP sensor is located at the rear of the manifold, toward the center, next to the oil pressure sensor, so both "could" be getting water, but they are supposed to have water tight seals on the connectors.

The oil pump is mounted on the front of the crankshaft, there is no clicking or engaging involved, when the engine is turning the oil pump should be pumping.

I also don't understand what your trying to explain by "water getting in at the base of the windshield?

What switch is clicking?

The oil pressure sensor and the MAP are both behind the intake. Sounds like water is getting in there and causing some issues. You could try taking an old shower curtain or something, covering the back of the intake and pushing the curtain back under the cowl so the water can't get in there. However, it shouldn't get in there anyhow. The cowl has some black plastic buttons that hold it in place, any missing towards the center?

Vettenuts - thanks, I know it sounds weird, but when I bought the car, I washed it a dozen times and no problems. Since then, this problem has happened. I don't know where its getting in, but its getting in... The fact that the MAP and the oil sensor unit are at the back of the manifold and the codes indicate and the car is reacting this way, can only mean one thing. So right now, I have to get the oil unit working so I don't ruin the engine. Then I'll work on the MAP and the water leak...Thanks for the help.

The oil sensor won't affect pressure, only what it reads since the oil pump is right on the front of the crankshaft and it will turn as long as the motor is running as you can see in this photo.

Correct - so when the oil pressure sending unit engages, then the pressure reads where its supposed to be (which it does) and when it clicks off, then thats why it drops to zero. So if this is the case at least I have a place to start with my problem.

Check your carpeting on the pass side floorboards. See if there is or has been signs of water. Remove the fuse panel cover and look there too. If there is, get back with us for further info.

I love my mechanic - Found a frayed wire at the 5 point plug going into the computer under the battery. Spliced it, taped it and plugged it back in. Three of the wires in were 1) gas guage 2) oil pressure sensor 3) MAP sensor. I wouldn't go to ANYONE else...
