Rear main oil leak??
The drips are so black that you can rub it between your fingers and not see skin color. However, the oil from the dipstick is still clean...hmm
I did the UV dye test and couldn't detect anything in the drips (possibly because they were so dark) but could clearly see it from the dipstick. I did use the yellow glasses as well.
I've linked a picture to what it looked like after driving around the block. Can anybody tell me what sensor that is? It's definately leaking out of that sensor as well.. appears to be leaking where the bell housing mates with the engine block... out of an opening (far left) that is on the bell housing.
I've eliminated this being from the oil sending unit behind the intake manifold. After pulling the intake; I tried to look down the back of the engine and didn't see any oil.
Is this possibly the rear main? I've heard in the neighborhood of $1200 to get that fixed. It just seems strange that it leaks out of that sensor as well. Any help is appreciated!

This is on a 2001 C5 M6

I looked at that TSB but was listed Corvettes 2003-2006; would the 2001 still apply in your opinion?
Also; since winter is almost here and the vette wont be driven much... how hard is this for your novice to average home mechanic to do? I'll have all the time in the world but not sure if some special tools are needed. Thanks!
