I recently was doing some highspeed freeway runs, and lost 3rd and 4th gear during it. Prior to rebuilding it or buying a new tranny, perhaps some of my questions might be answered or someone can post other questions in order to add light to my confusion. Hopefully with this information I can get answers so that I can build it right and cost efficiently.
Should I just outright by another tranny? Rebuilt or New
How much?
What components should I look for?
Needs to handle about 550rwhp
Please aks me questions because I am clueless regarding the A4's.

It could have put it self into a "limp mode" which would lock out 3rd and 4th gear. This is a self protect mode that is usally triggered by overheating. I would let it cool down and see what happens, it could be a cooling line restriction or low fluid level.
Did you notice what the trans temp read-out was when this happened?

If it is toast. RPM looks like the way to go.
Have been doing freeway runs for over a year and noticed some slippage. Temp would climb at times to 240+ and would let it cool down. This time even after cool down, there was no change in the end result
