I am thinking about getting a head and cam setup for my 2001. My dealer has done this several times and quoted me approx. 6G for the job. Is there anything I should ask or watch out for before handing over the keys? And how much accual HP would I expect to have? Thanks.

6G for the install or are the parts included? If install only, then "push your chair to the upright and brace yourself for impact" because they are poking your eyes "we have just lost cabin pressure"
gmiller1,
I think what the guys are hinting at is that you need to shop around. Many tuners out there have great packages for the LS1. Basic packages will give you somewhere around 400 to 440 hp (flywheel), with headers adding a little more. Most of these you can find for around $5000, including labor. Extra's will cost more though. Only use your dealer as a last resort...they don't specialize in performance like the tuner's out there, and you won't get as much for your money from them. Find yourself a specialist! Hope this helps. :seeya
Thanks everyone! The price for parts and labor was around 6Gs. I think I will look into an experienced tuner, I just do not like the idea of shipping the car or driving it 800-1000+ miles. Plus I am concerned about care of the car out of my sight, ie...no srcatches. The ZO7 package looks good (?MTI), does anyone have experience withg this major mod? :chevy

Oklahoma is very far from Dallas...you could make it a vacation and visit one of the local DFW shops.
GMILLER1: Give O'l RG at Exit 28 M.S. a call and talk with him! There is a tunner up near Dallas that could do the work you are looking for and probably at a better $$$$ :chevy

We send all our customers to Speedworks in the DFW area for their installs. A few of our customers have gotten ARE packages installed at Speedworks and have been impressed with the performance. Speedworks also has an in-shop dyno for fine-tuning and before/after dyno numbers.
If you want any more information on ARE's packages or on Speedworks, drop me an email.
