Default Parking Brake Install Question

I'm relatively new to this forum and would like to ask some of you more savey vette folks about replacing or adjusting the parking brake on my 99 Coupe. I had the unfortunate experience of allowing someone else to drive the vehicle and as it turn out, the parking brake was engaged for about 10 miles. I was in the vehicle, but didn't notice anything unusual until I spoke to said individual about going a bit fast. Just as I spoke, I noticed the parking brake light on the dash and you can guess. Based upon my reviews of the service manuals, doesn't seem like it should be too bad to replace. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Default Re: Parking Brake Install Question (bobeaton)

First of all , what are you trying to replace???
I feel very qualified to help you in this area.. I have many post on this forum about the parking brake.. there many Archieved post on the form under my nickname.. I too have a 99... here are some steps to take..
you are going to have to take off your rear rotors.. to see if you have ruined the e brake shoes... ( I doubt it )... then make sure the drum part of the rear rotors are not scored or cracked ( I doubt it )... I would then spray clean the shoes and the brake area with a product called Brake clean.. then with some 120 emery paper scuff up the surface of the shoes..and also the drum.. this is the important part.. there is a star adjuster which needs to be adjusted out to the point where you can just about get the rotor back on... once it is seated flush.. there wil be pad to drim clearance.. you can not get the adjuster too tight.. because of this clearance.. You can e mail me or I.M. me with specifics...
Good Luck
Bil (Evil-Twin )
BTW my adjuster was out 40 clicks when I did mine.. it has been fine for over a year.. and it now auto adjusts..
MY e brake never really worked untill I did the fix myself.. my dealer didnt have a clue..
