I noticed last night that my belt was rolling to the front and off of the crank pulley. The two middle ribs of the belt (six in all) were worn so I was hoping a new belt would resolve the problem but, it didn't. It's still coming off.
I removed the tension-er and the cap under the pulley and had some rust in there and then noticed the bearing seemed to be off center. There's two notched on it and thought maybe it could be tightened but stopped there.
I am assuming this is causing my belt to slide but am looking for some reassurance before I start my search for another tension-er.
Chris gave me a tension-er (Thank you very much ) and I put it on and it's still throwing the belt off.
I notice the compressor belt is off also and things just don't seem to be lining up so I try to align the compressor belt and realize the CRANK PULLY has backed off of the Harmonic balancer
I was hoping to take it tomorrow but, now I'm looking for a good tech tip!
Here is what I have..
Will I need to put a whole new balancer on or is there someway to fix this?
I'd get one rated for at least 7k rpms. Be sure to read up on removing and installing it. It can be a real hassle. If you can rent the right tools it's a breeze. Be sure not to strip out the threads in crankshaft. Make sure the crank bolt has at least 5 full turns in the crank shaft by hand before you tighten it down with a tool.
your problem is most likely a loose crank pulley bolt. This happened on my friend's FRC and it has been posted on the forum before. The original stock bolt should NOT be reused. An ARP replacement is suggested and the steering rack needs to be moved in order to get the bolt completely out. good luck with the repair.
