Default Shifter Question

I have done a search on the forum, but I am still a bit confused on which short throw shifter to purchase. I hear Hurst and the MTI 6 Shooter are the two. Please post more insight on just which ones and the pro's and con's. I know this is like but I just want to make this purchase only once. I do your basic driving, messing around and some track driving. Thanks in advance to those who reply to this thread.

If you go to the six-shooter web site they have a section that explains their shifter's pros and cons and I believe it compares it to the others available... It was good technical info..

I went with the C6 Z06 shifter.. Easy install, short throw, not too notchy... I love it. Bought it from Fred Beans.

I have the Hurst. Only bad thing about it is it rattles a little with the stock ****. Shifting from 2nd to 3rd has never been easier though.

Hi Z06Joe -

The billet shifters will by nature transmit more noise into your passenger compartment - at higher rpms this can sound like a rattling from the shifter.

The shorter throw makes the shifts more positive (some would say clunkier).

The stock shifters are bushed with a rubber isolator to dampen the noise and make the shifting action smoother (I presume on the last part).

What I am trying to say is that the short throw billet shifters are not for everyone.

I love it at the drag strip, and driving around town. It would not be as much fun on a road course where I had to row it a lot, in that case I would probably want the improved shifter from a stock C6 Z06.

All that said, I think the best billet shifter out there is the Breathless Performance Products shifter.

This shifter is adjustable - you can vary the angle of the shift rod left, right, forward and back, and it has the option of an angled shaft or a straight one. IT's the only shifter I know of that has this ability to fine tune itself to your driving position.

Guess what, it is also probably the most expensive one too.

A lot of folks go with the B&M Ripper they are good with a good shift feel, but are not as adjustable.

best regards -

I chose to just shorten the OEM unit. Took off 1 inch and I like it. Really easy mod and it made a big difference in the action.

Another vote for the new B&M shifter. Really like its short throws , feel and silence. If the shaft was about half an inch shorter, it would be perfect.

I would strongly suggest you look at the six shooter web site. Not only does it tell you how this shifter was designed but it also addresses the myths about short stock shifters and C6 shifters. It is very informative and since you are trying to make a decision, why not check it out. You can find this at: www.mtiracing.com They are a forum sponsor.
