Default royal purple?

i know that vettes have a specific kind of oil needed, but I read an article in chevy performance that running royal purple in oil, trans and rear diff can loosen up 8-10 hp in the test vehicle (2000 silverado)

do you reccomend royal purple or should i stick with the mobile 1?

I RAN AMSOIL 5W-30 FOR AWHILE. AND THE OTHER DAY WHEN I WENT TO GO PICK UP A 12 PACK CASE OF THEY DIDNT HAVE IT. IT RUNS ABOUT 70 BUCKS. SO INSTEAD THIS TIME I PICKED UP SOME ROYAL PURPLE COST 100 BUCKS FOR 12 PACK CASE. HAVENT REALLY GOTTEN TO TEST IT OUT MUCH SINCE I ONLY HAVE ABOUT 50 MILES AFTER THE OIL CHANE. BUT I HAVE HEARD GREAT THINGS ABOUT IT AND IT WILL WORK JUST AS WELL AS MOBIL 1

Many magazine articles and television shows suggest a certain product over another because they're advertisers/sponsors and provide the products free gratis.
I wonder if any independent third party has ever documented HP increases with ROYAL PURPLE over MOBIL 1?
You can use whatever oil you chose to spend your money on, but MOBIL 1 is still the GM recommended oil for Corvette.

If the Silverado was running petroleum based oil in all the components it is possible. However, your Vette has synthetic engine oil & Royal Purple is synthetic. May get a small HP gain from changing the tranny & diff. I run Royal Purple Engine and Redline in the tranny & Diff. Probably doesn't give much if any HP gains but it make me feel good! I think, there; I am!!!"

I have yet to see any data that would casue me to spend the $$$.

Any GM 4718M approved oil will do the job.

Pennzoil Platinum on a bogo deal works out to $1.87/qt
Mobil 1 runs about $4.75 at Sam's Club or Costco.
They will last 10,000 miles or more but most of change the oil at 3,000 miles... well before they are any issues with the oil shear thinning or oxidative thickening.

So why spend $8.33/qt ???

FYI, you can order AMSOIL online and have it shipped to your door. Sales using reference number 1206638 benefit the forum. AMSOIL Preferred Customer Program members save about 20-25% on retail.

I have been using the purple stuff for 5k now and noticed a little difference in my setup, ya I went from 317 rwhp to the current 742 rwhp and all because of the oil I not sure it would free up more hp, but I use it because my mechanic uses RP in all his cars, seems to be good stuff, but if you are stock there is nothing wrong with Mobil 1

Any good/cheaper sources for RP? I've heard good things about their "Xtra" performance blend.

When I was out at TWS a few weeks ago I asked a well-known racer his opinion. He said to look for oils that have a significant record in motor sports. That cuts the list down.

WITH ALL THE CASH WE DUMP INTO ARE CARS ITS FUNNY TO SEE SOME PEOPLE CRY ABOUT THE EXTRA $30-40 DOLLARS FOR OIL. ME I ONLY USE THE PURRPLE STUFF, WHEN I WAS BUILDING MY CAR I HAD SOME MARKETING BS STATING THE RP WOULD INCREASE SOME HP'S. I WHENT WITH IT FOR THE PROTECTION ONLY.

I use Royal Purple Synchromax in my Z06 trans. It gave the best performance of any trans fluid I've tried. When I use up my stash of Mobil 1 I might try Royal Purple in my engine. Satisfied customer.

Default Inconsistant?

I have a friend who runs a lab that does oil analysis. His opinion is that Royal Purple is good, but the company has quality control issues where
one batch may differ significantly from another...purity and additive levels. Do I think anyone would ever really be able to tell the difference
between the two, or Mobil1? No. He recommends Amsoil as the best
product he sees. I have no connection with Amsoil, nor does he. Just
FYI.

I run it in my motor and my manual trans.

Before I put it in the trans, about 50% of the time it was impossible to shift into reverse without going to third beforehand.

Now it goes into reverse 99% of the time first try. I am sold. It will be going in diff next oil change.

ETA: I forgot to add that when I bought my 2000 it used about a quart every thousand miles. It doesnt use any now.

I have used it all from RP to AMSOIL to Mobil 1... never noticed a difference between them.. I just like knowing that I have that extra added protection in there.

And just how do you think Mobil 1 became GMs factory fill and recommended oil for your Vette? You pretty much answered this question with your first statement.

I've used M1, RL and RP. They're all good quality synthetics as I'm sure Amsoil is as well. That is based on oil analysis reports and not vendor commercials.

I have used RP in the engine, trans, diff, power steering for over a year now. The oil takes a beating quite well (according to my blackstone reports). The trans shifts smoother. Look on the RP website for their list of local vendors. Some are selling at wholesale. I get a better price from them. Now PepBoys and NAPA are selling it in their stores but at a slightly higher price than I pay.

At the end of the day I have no idea as to whether the RP fluids improve HP or drivetrain efficiency by reduced friction. I think the +3HP is because it's Purple!

Default Rp

I am a RP dealer,as well as all the "Exotics.I have in 6 years never seen a technical bullitin that claims more power.I run RP and have seen and heard it do great things.Lower oil consumption, quiet gear whine, every thing points to a more slippery lube.
I did my fluids 6 mos. ago and I have seen almost 1 more mpg and many other evidence of its superb properties. It also contains no mineral oil which most do.Dave
