Default Thinking of adding pullies....

Taking my Z06 in for TPIS headers soon and thinking of doing pullies too. How much gain should I expect from it? Anyone had any battery drain problems after doing them?

I hear the name ASP come up often, any reason they are the best? They seem to be hard to get.

I also have a question regarding pullies. Do you have to reprogram the PCM if you add Pulleys?

Expect the advertised 10HP gain (more or less). No reprogramming necessary. I have had no battery problems. IMHO a good mod if you are not powering aftermarket amps.

I believe that with the pulley swap doesn't your A/C and coolant, etc. get messed up a little?

I had an SLP pulley on my WS6 which was one of my more noticeable mods in terms of power. Some people think that the pulley will create problems associated with charging and running the A/C, but I have found on the LS1, and most likely the LS6 as well, that this is not a problem at all. It seemed to be a problem associated with 302 powered fox-body Mustangs, especially, as well as some other less notables. There is also no need to reprogram the computer with a pulley.

HOWEVER, there is one big problem associated with this mod on a C5 vette, and that is the steering shaft in front of the pulley. It is right in the way, and I have heard that this makes it an incredibly difficult mod to preform without some mechanical expertise. I have done all the mods on my car, but even this goes over my head, so I have effectively let it be until the time when I may do heads and a cam and let someone else toy with it. Supposedly, you can't get the pulley off without pulling that shaft, and if you don't get the steering back together correctly it will throw error codes like mad.

The shop I'm having do my headers quoted me $130 for the pulley install. Figure I'll let them do it.

Now I just need to find some in stock somewhere....

The pulley will get you a solid 1/10 in the qtr. Works best at high rpm. One pound lighter than stock. PIA to install. My battey will get some drain in LONG stop and traffic, but other than that it works great.

I've heard that if you live in a warm climate, adding pullies puts extra stress on the A/C system and isn't a good idea.

I've got an underdrive crank pulley on my car and it works great. As stated, it was a bitch to install but MTI took care of that.

I have not noticed any negatives with the accessories except for the water pump below 2k RPM. It runs about 10 deg. warmer if left under that RPM but it does cool just as before anywhere above. The AC blows cold and the charging system is content.

Does anyone know if there is a multiple pulley kit available for our cars? Maybe an alternator pulley? I assumed there was only ud crank pulley kits available.

Thanks

I added the Crank Pulley to my car. It was a noticable increase in power and I dont have any charging problems with it. I also dont have a aftermarket sound system... yet. ;)
