Default Swaping Windows

Right now I have 2 98 vette's and one I am selling over christmas break. Anyways the one I and selling has what looks to be factory tint or atleast tinted glass (not film) on both side windows. The vette I am keeping has clear glass. How hard is it to swap glass or should I just wait and put aftermarket tint on at a later date

The tinted windows I have now are not at max tint so Id still like um darker one day but this would hold me over for quite some time

As far as I know,,,all C5 glass is the same. If yours is tinted and its not a film,,,,,,,,I think I would keep it! Are you sure its not film tint???

Default tintied glass

Since 1970 all corvettes came with tinted glass, before then it was on option, I changed my share of untinted windows, in a few vetts I have owned.

If the windows look darker they more than likely have a film or some kind on them....

chances of having the door glass factory tinted darker than 60-80% (meaning that 80% of light is transmitted) is not probable since federal law doesnt allow it. the best way to tell if you have some tint on the glass is to pull the door panel off and check the glass below the weatherstripping. thats where the tint shops normally tape the glass.....tint the glass down to.

How hard is it to switch windows? I can do alil car work but nothing to crazy

It could be a film I guess if it was done really well or something. Its not anything I would be able to peal off from what I can tell though

Door glass change can be done in an hour. 2 if your drunk!

It is NOT difficult! Remove the door panel, remove the glass and make sure that the glass to door alignment is correct!

be careful....changing out the glass is simple, but the tint will scratch veerrrryyy easily. it might be better just to have the 'clear' (all a/c cars have tinted glass from the oem as per fed law.....has to do with a/c cycling and the epa) glass tinted. it's cheap and if you scratch the tint, you'll have time AND money invested.

Once the door panel is off mark your windows with tape, where they fit in the clamps and then remove, and reinstall using your tape as a guide. 1 to 2 hour job.
