hey C5 guys, my bro just bought a 98 coupe and has two q's...1. he is getting new wheels and tires and doesn't want to change over the tire pressure sensors. is that possible without tripping the "tire pressure" code on the dash or can it just be disconnected? 2. the "service ride control" light changes into the "shock inoperative" light which changes into "max speed 80 m.p.h." light right now. yes, it has the F45 suspension. being that my bro is a "ford tech" and isn't familiar with good cars, what is the procedure to fix this problem? any input would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance!!!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO EVERYONE HERE AT THE FORUM!!!
He can run without TP Sensors but will have to hit reset since the Service Tire Pressure Monitoring System warning will come up everytime he starts the car. The lack of sensors does nothing to limit the speed of the car.
By the way why doesn't he just buy new sensors since the batteries in the old ones are about to run down anyways? Just put the new sensors on the new wheels.
To remove these items from the car without seeing error codes all the time, you will need to get a tech tool and remove them from the computer. Any knowledgeable C5 corvette mechanic will be able to do it for you. This is not something that most mechanics do very often, but it is in the tech tool.

He says it's a 1998 ... you can't unselect the TPM option in those cars with a Tech2, he'll either need to put the monitors in the new rims, or hit RESET every time he starts the car.
On the suspension issue, have the shocks been replaced with non-F45 shocks? Easiest way to diagnose this problem is to display DTC codes set in the car's computer.
There is a comprehensive post on eliminating the F45 feature from your car. I will look for it and post it here. All you need to do is unplug the module and program the option out of the BCM with a tech II.
You cant eliminate the TPS from the 97-98-99 or 2000 C5 Why would you want to do away with such a valuable and useful feature????????????????????????
Replace the old sensors with re-manufactured ones form the forum vendor who replaces the batteries in them! There a lot Less expensive than new ones.
