Default Engine light came on......

The engine light came on in the middle of a huge downpour. The codes are P0172 and P0175. Fuel Trim System Rich Band 1 and Fuel Trim System Rich Band 2. I've searched with no luck. Any ideas are welcome.
Thanks.

What year car is it and do you have any aftermarket air intake system. Bottom feeders and VARARAM will ingest moisture (its normal and usually wont hurt anything except throw those codes). I have a VARARAM and I get those codes if I drive in very heavy rain storms.

You don't have to hit any large puddles to get moisture in the intake track. If you submerge the front end, your going to have more issues than DTC's

I would say just clear the codes and you should be fine.

Thanks for your reply....It's a 98 coupe and I have replaced the intake with the Z06 intake. By clearing codes do you mean using the reset button? What are DTC's ?

If you have a GM Stock intake air filter, water ingestion shouldn't be too much of a problem. Water could have ran in from the opening in the hood area between the bumper and the hood. You can also check the intake tract for having a proper seal. The duct between the throttle body and the MAF needs to be air tight so no unmetered air gets in. If you have a stock air bridge, clamping the hose clamp too tight can collapse it, allowing air to enter. Check the intake ducting for a good seal. Let me know what you find.

All C5s have a built in Code reader. Here is a website that gives you directions on reading the codes and definitions for all the codes. If you go into manual mode in the code reading routene and press reset for each code listed, it will clear the code. If the code is listed as C current, it will come back. Sometimes immediately! If it is H history, you should be good to go.

This is the absolute best C5 Code web site!!!

If you have entered the "manual" diagnostic DTC code routine, properly, selected the 10 PCM module and are displaying one of the DTC's and then press and "H O L D" the reset button until the DTC's clear, I would check the filter and see if it got wet and is now clogged. A wet filter can cause it to flow less air and cause the engine to run rich.

What letter code is displayed after the DTC?? It will look like this:

10 PCM 0172 C or 10 PCM 0172 H.
It could also have a 10 PCM 0172 HC

The codes were current - C. I didn't drive it yesterday but this evening I did. The light was on and after driving about 15 minutes the light went out. Yeah! I will try to clear the codes again. I was not HOLDING the reset so that was probably why they didn't clear. Thanks for your insight.

My wife had the check engine light come on as well.
By using the link you provided, I was able to clear the codes, and now the light is off!
