A few of my digital climate control button lights are out. This is not a dimming issue, as the light underneath the buttons don't work at all. I fixed the display dimming and hoped that re-soldering would fix the lights too. Are these bulbs replacable? Maybe the bulbs are good and there is a bad trace in the circuit board. Any info on this issue is greatly appreciated.
i am having the same issue. i am going to give this a shot. the bulbs are not available separately. you have to buy a new unit. but this guy got this to work so i figured it is worth a shot!
I have about 5 of the Top Bulb lights installed and they "might" just be a tad brighter than stock. I picked the 14 volt type since the DIC says about 14.1 volts during everyday driving. I didn't think a 12volt would correctly work (too bright @14v) and would burn out sooner.
The biggest pain is installing the bulbs. If you can get the solder out of the existing pc board holes after removing the old bulb, its a snap. I didn't have a pin vise/drill to clean-out the about .02" dia hole, so I had to "work" the new bulb in by heating the hole and pushing the bulb wire in, alternating each lead of that bulb. You'll know what I mean when you try to replace the bulbs.
Just as a note, the pc board has the bulbs mounted in several "parallel" sets. So you can not check each bulb individually with an ohm meter while it is mounted on the pc board.
I decided to go with the radioshack bulbs as they had them in stock. I have a solder remover that will definitely help when removing the old bulbs. Will post update once I find the time to get them installed.
I purchased the 25ma bulbs from radioshack but they didn't work. They have a plastic on them that makes them stand up to tall. I decided to return them and go with the 65ma even though they are a little brighter. I had to replace all of the bulbs also because the old ones burned out after replacing just 3. Other than that, looks great! I actually prefer the brighter bulbs. Part # is 272-1092. Saved myself a lot of $$$!!! Also, if you use a "flat-head" type solder tip it helps with removing the old bulbs. It also makes a much cleaner solder joint in my opinion.
