Default Check Engine light help

The Check engine light came on this afternoon and I have not been able to get it to shut off. Have checked the oil and anti-freeze and they are okay. All electrical connections under the hood appear to be okay. There is no message in the DIC and I have no idea what the problem may be. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks,

Gene

Here is another web site that is wonderful and has other C5 stuff! Pull the DTC's and post your results!!

This is the absolute best C5 Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) web site!!!

http://www.corvettedoctor.com/Code_Main.html
http://www.corvettedoctor.com/index.html

Go to “technical data base” and then to “Corvette ECM Computer Codes”. Then select your year car. Read the instructions and then scroll down to the "READ MORE" window to view the code definitions.\

Here is another very good site:

http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_cod...d-ii-codes.php

Make sure to include the H or C suffix!!

Sound effects are cool too! 

Thanks for your help. Will have to save these sites for future reference.I am anxious to see what codes are in the systems
as the car doesn't have that many miles. 2002 Z06 that just turned 18,000 miles. Will post results. Again, thanks to the both of you for your help. Sound effects that I enjoy.

My check engine light came on so I pulled the codes. The only active codes delt with the engine running lean. Turned out the intake had come loose from the mass air flow sensor, put it back together, turned off the light and all is well. Point is until you read the codes it could be about anything.

Default Thanks Bill Curlee

For the link. The wifes Check engine light came on the other day, and with the link you posted, I was able to clear the codes.

The code was P0410 HC; Secondary air injection (air) system.
Not sure what that is/means, so it's off to the manual I go!

Pulled the codes a few minutes ago. They read as follows:
10 PCNI -P1416 H C
A0 LDCM - B2282 H, B-2284 H, U-1064 H, U-1016 H, U-1096 H,U-1255 H
A1 RDCM - B-2283 H, B-2285 H, U-1255 H, U-1064 H, U-1016 H, U-1096 H
I'm guessing that the PCM code triggered this due to it having the "C". I would think that I could reset all the "H" designations but am not sure about the PCM code. Hope I have this right.

Now that you wrote the codes down you can go in there and reset them to turn off the CE light. Then see what codes come back.

Most likely a stuck AIR Check valve. If your interesred, I have a method that you can use to try to clean the valve. Might save you a few bucks and a lot of time.

with Steven T
Yep,,,If you have the codes written down, CLEAR THEM! Most of the time, that will take care of it.

Yep

There is a coupling in the rubber hose that comes from the air pump. It will be laying on top of the frame and is located near the alternator. Separate the hose and spray a good shot of carburetor cleaner in the hose that runs toward the rear of the car.

Use some compressed air to force it through the check valves. Then follow up the cleaning with a little WD-40 and force that through.

If the check valves are just stuck shut, that should take care of it. If they are burnt or if the pump isn't working, you will still have the codes. You can see if the pump runs and pumps air by disconnecting the same coupling and when the engine is cold, the pump should run for a few minutes and then shut down. Thats the only time it runs. Upon cold start up.

Once you clean then you can see if the valve/s is/are working by starting the engine with the air supply hose disconnected. If you get exhaust out of the hose. one or both valves is bad. You can further isolate it down by disconnecting the hoses at the Y split at the fire wall
below and inboard of the brake booster. Just follow the 3/4" hose. The Check valves should pass air to the cats and NOT the other way!
