Will the car run without the guage cluster installed ?

Will the car run without the guage cluster installed ?
My guage cluster conked out on me last week and I need to drive to ups to pick up the new one I ordered because I missed the drop off and a signature is required. Will the battery die on me since the car recognizes there is no cluster ?

Many times - no problem. I drove to work and back with no cluster more than once (140 mile round trip)

I know that with the older gm products with idiot lights resistance is required to excite the alternator . The resistor that was used is the alternator bulb in the cluster . The circuit board in the back of the cluster in my skylark went bad and I ended up putting a bulb under the hood (it was the easy way out) . Charlie
