Use a spring scale. Hook it onto the and of the wrench. Divide 11 by the length of the wrench (in feet) from the center of the bolt to where the scale is hooked eg. 6" = .5. Tighten and check by pulling on the scale perpendicular to the wrench until the scale reads that number. Voila 11 ft/lbs.

Where can I get these thingamabobs, they look great for fishin...bob.
I use an 8 mm battery wrench I got at Autozone. It has a built in release and if you exceed 12 ft-lbs it free-wheels. I find it most helpful and I have never warped a battery in over tweenty years.

So THAT'S what Snap on has been doing with those 8mm wrenches that I keep returning to them - every time I try and use the 8mm Snap on wrench to torque my lug nuts, the Da** thing strips out

12 ft-lbs? You sir, are playing with fire. However, I do admire your bravery.
