One of the accessory pulleys is squealing loudly when I first start up in the morning... Once it warms up, the squeak stops. It is not the belt. I know it is hard to diagnose without actually being there... but I am having trouble isolating it... Is there a a part that is notorious for sqealing on these cars? I have a 2000 convertible with 47k miles.
On all my other cars, it seems to always be the idler pulley. I just sprayed wd-40 behind the dust plate while the engine is running and the squeal went away. Just don't get your hand close to the belt and wear eye protection to keep the wd-40 out of your eyes.
I am having a similar problem and dont know what to do. I've had it at the chevy dealership for about the past month and they cant seem to figure it out. They have put 2 new belts idler pulley, main crank pulley and i still have a squeak. So they have decided to order a gator belt and its not in yet. Is your squeak noticable all the time or jsut when you are on the gas? Mine is only when im on the gas. Any feedback would be nice
Thanks

My squeak is when the car is first started... It changes with engine RPM and seems to go away once warmed up.... A definite squeak... not a belt squeal.. It sounds like you've spent some money on this problem... hope you have some good luck soon.
Does your harmonic balancer look alright? If it is bad you will see it while the engine is idling. Thats how my problem started, with a squeak. I think a gatorback or a polycog belt are more unlikely to squeal.
I just bought an '02 Z with the same issue...small squeak and you can visibly see the crank pulley wobble a bit at idle. Was told by a Chevy tech that if it runs fine and does not miss not to "waste my money" on replacing the pulley/balancer - that a lot of Corvette's have this issue. Is there any truth to this? Would the balancer wobbling negatively affect anything else in the engine? Car runs great overall...just worried.
glerma.....mine squeaked too! spray water on the belts. if it stops for a couple of seconds and comes back, its your belts, or at least one of them. if not, then its a pully or tensioner for sure. did you try this yet? I know the "squeal" you are talking about. belts make all sorts of different pitches. my father's R.V. squealed like a stuck pig! I put Gator Backs on both the a/c and the main sepentine. it's quiet now and has not squeaked since....no more embarring moments at the street lights.

no joke about the embarrassment... maybe if I was in an old truck...no biggie... but in a red 'Vette..... not cool.
