I'm brand new to this board so, if I'm in the wrong forum, please let me know where I should ask the question.
I'm considering the 18" 'Classic' 3 piece for AXing. Are there any heavy AXers thrashing these wheels? Do they hold up to a 3000 lb. car's lateral forces?
Can anybody share some stories, rumors, anecdotes or otherwise about CCW Classics? Or - other CCW wheels better suited for aggressive AXing?

The CCW Classic is wheel of CHOICE for racing and auto-x.
I have three sets and beat the living chit out of them. They hold up great.
The Classics are CCW's race wheels. Alot of cars in the Speedvision Challenge run them. I have them on my almost-daily driver. You can't give them any more abuse than road driving, like potholes, etc. They are holding up great and still look great, too, with no problems at all. They've been on for more than a year now.
Thanks guys. I'd heard on another board of one 'dissatisfied' customer and wanted just a bit more of a confidence level before taking the plunge.
As an aside... I did speak briefly with Chip, the GM of CCW (I was focusing on AXing) and he mentioned something about phasing out the Classic - but it almost seemed like he was fishing for my response. He then tried to lightly steer me toward a 'much stronger' wheel with the C14 single piece Corsair (which looks very good to me). That's another reason I wanted to get some feedback from a group that does a lot of business with CCW... and see if anybody would also bring up the Corsair.
Since I'm surrounded by Senior Members here.... I'll defer and let you take over. But, I fear I may be headed down a long debated 'friendly?' argument?
Okay, what are the second best race wheels?...we're talking about wheels, right? it's all yours...
phased out really isnt the right word for it, in 16 and 17" they will continue to be the primary offering and will be joined by a new center design (the new design was made to address the high offset and large caliper overhang requirements that many late model car applications dictate). production costs for the 3-piece wheels have risen to the point where, in 18", the price spread between them and the monobloc 18's (corsair c14's and new c10's) has narrowed and although the classics are a very tough piece, monobloc forgings have even better properties, like 1/2 the deflection at 20% greater load and substantialy greater impact resistance (for when you want to start an argument with the wall)

understood but what about those of us who want classics for our C5's in stock sizes?
Classics are still available in 16, 17 and 18" sizes. We are currently working on a new design to the classic which should be available soon. As Dan said phase out is a strong word to use. We do lean more toward the C14 lately for track use in 18" sizes because the wheel is that much more stronger. We had a customer put his car into a wall running C14 and the wall won of course. He totaled the car but still had a set of wheels for a new one!
All in all are goal is to make a set of wheels that fit each customers specific needs. The classic wheel has always been a great wheel and has its own advantages, ie being able to replace parts and being able to hit certain backspacing numbers.
My suggestion is to determine what wheel meets your needs and your liking. We stand behind all of our wheels 100%, if you are not satisfied then give us a call and we will do what we can to fix any problems.
FYI: Our new T10 wheel has passed testing and is ready for production.
I can post a link to where the picture is. Let me know if it works or not. If not I'll get Dan to post one. He is our web designer. I can cut and paste
