I need some help with info on BBC heads, we are going to start building our fist BB and I'm starting with a 454 that came out of a 83' one ton pick up. I'm hearing a lot about differant heads, I ran the casting numbers and the info says that they are from 75-87 and open chamber 113 cc. I had another guy tell me that these are called peanut port heads and worthless for what I'm wanting to do.
I'm building this motor for an 89 2wd pick up and would like good driveability and about 500 crank hp, I will also be putting a 100 shot on it.
Any info or advice is greatly appreciated guys, I don't know if this is the best place to ask these questions but the forum has always come thru in the past.
Grab some rectangular port ls6 heads,a good mild roller cam,a performer intake, a 750 carb and some headers.should be a close 425-450h.p.If you want more you will have to bump the compression as with those heads and the stock flat tops your compression is around 8.75-9.25.
are these heads worth rebuilding, maybe doing a little port work and some higher compression pistons? Are these heads the peanut heads that ppl keep telling me are worthless?
the casting numbers are 346236, I don't find any listings of what are called peanut ports
Those are the peanut heads and they are not going to flow well. If you try running rectangular port heads and a big cam it will not have very good driveability due to the low compression and the fact that rec. heads are not as streetable as decent oval port aftermarket aluminum heads. You really should ask this in engine mods or C3 tech.
You have basically the same setup as my '70. I have a 74 Suburban engine with LS5 oval port heads, Edelbrock Torker II intake and Performer cam.
