Default LS1 & LS6 Differences?

As far as the bottom end goes is there a difference between the two? For example take my '99 bottom end....is it different than an '01-04 LS6 bottom end? I know that neither run forged internals but I was wondering if one motor takes to being boosted better than another or can handle more NA horsepower than the other. I believe that the LS6 runs a higher compression making the LS1 more boost friendly but other than that and the better flowing LS6 heads and hotter cam what exactly are the differences?

Besides what you stated, there are none. The heads, cam, intake manifold and of course more cubic inch is what make it a LS6.

There are differences to the block also, but the cubic inches are the same. The LS6 has better oil return holes and "windows" cast into the block between the cylinders or something like that to prevent "reverse hydrolock" of a cylinder. Basically to prevent oil build-up UNDER a piston during extended high rpms or "G's". The LS6 also has a higher capacity oil pump and stronger rod bolts that didn't amke it into the LS1 until late.

Anybody else feel free to add anything i missed or give a better explanation of the oil relief windows.

Displacement is the same on LS1 & LS6.

the 97-98 blocks have a shallow oil transfer galley @ the rear of the block that limits equal flow of oil to the main lifter oil galleys. Pre 01 blocks have a hole machined through the main webs to improve bay to bay oil -vapor pumping issues, there is a diffrence in the material of the piston used in the Ls1 & the Ls6 both are lightweight, flat top eutectic cast aluminum .The original Ls1 pistons are made by mahle using an aluminum/silicon alloy called m124 Ls6 pistons are made of M142, which has a higher copper & nickel content .M142 is stronger & exhibiits reduced expansion @ high temps than m124..This also helped gen 3 team use tighter bore clearnces to minimize oil consumption & piston noise while maximizing durability.Ls6 02 & beyond have light weight hollow stem valves .the exhaust valve is packed with a sodium -potasssium mix to help it remain cool. The 02 & later Ls6 valves are 0.6 mm longer than the previous ,to compensate for changes to the 02 Ls6 camshaft base circle.Ls1 97-98 duration @ 50 - [I][FONT="Arial Black"]199/207[] Valve lift / 0.472int /0.479exh / .LSA117 .Small baby cams 00/camshaft spec198/209 valve lift [ inch] intake/exh0.500 /0.500 Lsa 115.5 . 01 -03 duration, int/exh/ 198/207 valve lift, 0.467/0.479 116 lsa .Ls6 01 385 hp 204/211 int/exh int/exh 0.525/0.525 116 lsa 02 -04 Ls6 204/218 0.555/0.551 exh Lsa 117.5 .Here are a couple more gm performance cams. hot cam -219/228 int/exh valve lift [/B]0.525/0.525 Lsa 112 Asa camshaft -] 226/236 0.525/0.525 110 Lsa
