Default z06 wheels

I want to buy GM, not a aftermarket Z06 wheels, and want polished aluminum. Have been reading the treads and one thread said the only forged alum wheels are 2001 made for GM by Speedline. Then antoher thread said Alcoa is stamped on 2001 and Speedling made 2002 to 2004? A friend said the only Z06 polished alum wheels are 2004 and are cast not forged? I don't race and wonder exactly what the difference is between cast and forged? Also if I buy the Z06 gunmetal gray wheels can I strip them and polish them or where do I go to have them stripped and polished? The reason I don't want aftermarket is I heard they crack and usually after 2 to 4 years the chrome starts flaking like it did on my older 1998 Vert. I appreciate all your help. Oh 1 more thing is there a web sight that tells what Z06 wheels gunmetal, black, polished were on what year vettes? The Wiz

This is what I know from your Questions.

Forged is lighter than Cast, they are both strong wheels to begin with. The forged will cost more.
You can strip the stock Gunmetal wheel and have them sent out and polished. Not sure where, as there are alot of places that do so, and I havente used any of them.

Alcoa (forged) was installed in 2001, and Speedline (spun cast) were installed on the rest. All but the 2004 Z16 came in gunmetal. The Z16 was the only one to get them pollished.

Here's a decent discussion:

In C5 Gen there was a post about a forum member that recently bought and installed some Z16 polished Z06 wheels. Looked very good. Might want to check it out.

I'm polishing mine, but now with Bob's supply for sale, it would probably be wise to sell my stockers and buy his, but then I'm short on cash, long on time right now.

Although forged wheels are generally lighter than cast wheels, the 2002-onward cast Z06 wheels are actually lighter than the forged 2001 models. Less wheel weight = less unsprung weight = slightly faster.
