There is also some spray from the auto parts store made just for MAF's. Saw it on an episode of "Speed Week" when they were adding an STS twin turbo kit to a C5

It's CRC Air-Intake Cleaner. Does an excellent job of cleaning off the gunk and won't leave residue on the MAF wires that can affect performance. Also excellent for cleaning the throttle body. I get it at NAPA.

Am I correct in assuming that you can just spray it into the inlet vs taking it apart.
I've always removed the MAF and gotten a direct spray on the wires. Lots of people have problems with their MAF after re-oiling their K&N filters. It's just excess oil and you just have to clean it off rather than buying a new one.

Maybe they should have put "regain" 4-10 horsepower........,etc (assuming a really filthy MAF, etc is causing a loss of hp in the first place) Ya think?
You may want to do a search on MAF cleaners. There has been previous posts and discussions. One needs to be very careful what you use to clean them. Read the labels on many of the intake cleaners and it warns against using them on the MAF's.
I have seen mechanics just use carburetor cleaner, but I have also read in the service manual that you should not use cleaners that have MEK (methyl ethyl ketone) on the throttle bodies. I noticed the cans of B-12 carburetor cleaner I have do contain MEK.
I have seen CRC throttle body cleaner, but I have not found a parts store that sells the MAF sensor cleaner. It would be interesting to see what the label shows the main solvent to be on the special MAF cleaner.
