Default Tie Rod End Link replacement ???

I'm going to replace my rear tie rod end links this weekend ... I'm figuring it is going to be an easy job. But, figured I'd see if there are any tips/tricks/uh-ohs to know about before I do it.

Thanks in advance.

It depends on how old the car is and the exposure of the tie rod to road dirt, salt, etc. Older rusted parts or salt corroded parts are very difficult to separate. Newer cars all it usually takes is a tap or two with a rubber mallet and the rod end separates. Your 2000 should be easy. I burned up my tie rod rubber cups and had to replace them. The job was easy, I purchased the Kent Moore tool specified in the manual. Pricy tool, but it will allow you to separate without damage.

I've done the same thing with my rears. You said you have replaced the rubber boots/cups. Were you able to find a reasonable replacement part for the boot only?

Fred Beans / GMParthouse are saying that you have to buy the entire tie rod end link kit which is $80 ea in the rear and $60 ea in the front.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks,

FWIW, I got my rear end links from Ecklers for $45 ea ... here's the link:

Thanks for the reply, that makes it quite a bit more economical.

Anyone ever replaced just the boot?
