Default 427 build

I ve been doing some searches and have good info but i would like direct answers to my questions.

I have a 02 z06 w/125k on the clock. stock everything except varram.

I want to stroke current set up to a 427.

-what headers will be best. size ect...
-clutch set up?
-fuel changes? injectors, pumps, ect...

basically any thing i can gather up on the used side before i get the engie built.

Also would not mind putting a SC set up on but that will have to wait.

this is not a daily driver.

Any advice?

A set of American Racing 1 7/8's should work.

Can't help you on the clutch.

A set of SVO/Bosch or Delphi/lucas 42# injectors should work for you. These injectors get their flow rated at 43.5 of fuel pressure. So on our cars with our elevated fuel pressure, they probably will compare close to a 48lb injector.

BTW, if using your existing block, your gonna have to re-sleeve your block for a larger bore. Keeping your existing 3.9 bores will be detrimental to the intake valve flow of the larger valve head you would need for this build.

Stroke to a 427 I thought it required a new block and bigger displacement

Much less hassle, and probably cheaper to go with a whole new shortblock. Lots of options available now.

I've been considering some similar options... think for a 427, I'd go with an LS7 short block at $5300 or so. Sleeved LS1/2s are not to far from that depending on the vendor.

402 w/L76/L92 is a very cost effective combo. Think you'd save 12-1500 on the short block.

Check the F/I section for some good clutch discussions.

Default block

My mistake i thought that the block could take that bore., what bore would the oe block take but still be a noticeable gain. I did a 383 on my LT-1 and was not satisfied.

-so to re-cap seems consensus is to go w/aftermarket block for the 427? and then the fuel injection ect.. will fit on that block. no changes to the fuel system other than injectors?

Take an ls6 block and Darton sleaves to 404 or 427 or 434.. From there it's up to you how much money you wish to spend. You should really use forged parts and yes you will need larger injectors. How much it is gonna cost is up to you and what you want out of the engine. The most important part and I repeat....the most important part is who builds it and who tunes it. That my friend is going to be your most important decision. If you were still in South Georgia I would suggest MTI Racing but not sure where to go in Big Mo. Do your homework on your builder and tuner (preferably same company) as you spend a ton on equipment and it means absolutely nothing if you have no driveability due to poor build, installation, and/or tune. Good Luck and it is a blast to have bigger cubes

go with an ls2 or ls7 block. The valley under the intake has a better design for oiling. That and its not much moe expensive.

I think I read somewhere that a LS1-6 block can only take about an.010 overbore. Not worth the trouble unless it's fixable damage. And I think the max stroke is 4". BTW, the injectors fit on the intake manifold, the block has nothing to do with fitment. Which intake manifold you choose will depend on which block configuration you decide on.

I beleive the simplest and most cost effective route would be a forged LS7 short block with a stroked LS1 crank. You can rework your 243 heads to work with this combo as well. And yes, you will need to go to larger injectors. Sell your old LS6 short block to recoupe some of the cost.

I was thinking of taking the car to Texas speed, finish line in IL, or thunder racing in LA. B/c i live in Springfield Mo. seems there is a lack of providers. All those guys seem good to go through. I am sure they could help me but i am trying to gather what i will need over time. i plan on having this done in about a year so i want the wallet rape to be gradual not all at once and traumatic.
