I would like to put a new exhaust system on my 2004, but I don't know what to get. I've looked in Mid America and Ecklers and just get confused (yes, I am a female) and this is unfamiliar to me. I would like a nice beefy sound, but not too overwhelming. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
Borla, B&B, Magnaflow and GHL are probably your bets for a system with more of a rumble. I chose GHL Bullets (their quieter system) and love them. They're slightly louder than the runflat tire noise on the interstate but really wake up under acceleration.
Sound clips are only a starting points. I'd recommend checking out a local club (or some forum members' cars in your area) to hear a few systems in person. Good luck!
when you say "exhaust system" what do you mean? I'm not trying to be a smart guy here I'm just trying to scope out the extent of your intent. The "exhaust system" stretches from the exhaust headers to the cats to an X-pipe ,if you'd like to add one, to the cat backs ( what used to be called mufflers, but that name is no longer politically correct).
It's a fairly expensive proposition to change all that hardware out - $2000 - $2800 or even more than $3500..
If your only desire is to "change the sound" of the exhaust and you're not overly concerned with performance increases you should limit you research to cat backs and possibly, an X-pipe.
Many of the cat back manufactures have sound clips on their web sites; there are numerous posts on this forum about differtent catbacks.
How much noise do you want
The quietest cat backs you can add are Zo6 catbacks and you can usually pick up a set on the forum for around $400; an X-pipe will run about $250.
The quietest after market set is generally thought to be the B&B Route 66.
Then you can get into some of the real louder stuff. Best advise is try to "hear" it before you buy it.
One final point, please don't feel bad because you're confused - we all are. That's why we ask questions and usally get bad answers.
Good luck and welcome aboard.
It is there powerflo tip. I only bought the tip though no mufflers and built an exhaust around it w/ a 90* and 180* curve to quiet it down and give it an exotic sound.
From what I was researching, I would be replacing the X-Pipe back. Everyone seems to have their favorite brand, so I believe I will take your advice and actually go somewhere to "hear" them. Thank you for your help and wish me luck!
Don't forget the Z06 system, no drone a bit louder and a lot less weight. If you go headers later, the exhaust sound will change too so plan your mods ahead of time.
magnaflow xpipe and exhaust, deep enough sound and loud enough I dont have any trouble hearing it when in it , but quiet enough that it dont drive me when just cruising around
