I have developed a coolant leak on my F-body ls1 that leaves telltale orange blobs on my drivers side motor mount. This is my first modern hot rod, which I really like, but am unfamiliar with. I would think head gasket, but someone told me that they had different type of freeze plug that made problems. The motor was built up to 500 hp by LG Motorsports in the Dallas area so It has been strained a bit. No Idle or low end torque but has never lost at the stoplight. Any info or advice would be appreciated. I'm a member of a LS forum but I see the best minds are on this site. Thanks-Mark
Looking in the manual I can't identify any freeze plugs in that area of the block. However, there is a block drain on either side. Can't you get a mirror in there and pinpoint the location? It could also be running down from somewhere else as well. Between spark plugs 1 and 3 there is a coolant sensor, you might want to check that as well.
Thanks for your help. I will probably do a head and cam swap to provide the low end torque that I need. I'm investing in trackside property near Dallas so it needs to have punch out of a hairpin! Thanks again, I will get back under my car when the floor gets above 40 degrees.
