Not too long ago I had a new LS1 crate engine put in my 99 A4. My original engine was destroyed from going through deep water. Well after a few weeks one day my transmission started screwing up. As i accelerated, everything was ok until i hit about 30mph. after that rpm's would jump but my speed stayed the same. In other words after 30mph the car just neutraled, but the engine was reving. I immediately took it to a Tranny Mechanic. I ended up paying $1300 to repair it. He said 2nd and 3rd gears burned up. He also said that the tranmission looked good and it hasnt been abused. That lasted about two weeks then one day the gears burned up again. It did the same exact thing. So i took it back and they fixed it again. He didnt know what had caused it to do this again. No cost becuase of the warranty. Well here i am now and i think its going to start doing the same thing again. At 60mph im noticing the rpm's jumping but my speed is the same until it finally changes gears. I have noticed a slight burning smell when i turn the car off. The mechanic told me that it was ok if i seen a small amount of tranny fluid on the ground because it might have to much in it. So im not sure if he's not doing something right or its another problem. Has anyone ever had a problem like this before? And could anyone help me out?
ITS NOT OK TO SEE TRANS FLUID ON THE GROUND! If I were you I would find someone else to look at your trans and let the first guy that TRIED to fix it pay for it...................Paul
Well it's back in the shop now. After I get it back, Im planning on taking it somewhere else for them to look at. Thanks to everyone for the help I'll post the results when i get her back
Run away from this Tranny Mechanic as soon as possible.
No there should be no drips anywhere and is is checked by letting it run and checking the level in the fill hole. Should be full when level with the bottom of the hole. Sounds like you found the only "dipstick" having to do with a C5 auto and that's this mechanic.
Also sounds like your TC. Good MOD time.
Good luck take it to someone that is proficient
