Default Oil Change

Well, took the C5 to my son's shop for first oil change. It would not go up the alignment rack w/o scraping, so we decided to lift it on regular lift..until I saw it wasn't going to work either w/o buying those "pucks" they sell to put in the jacking slots....has anyone used anything else to get it up in the air enough to change oil? Will it ride up on some rhino ramps or are tires too wide?

Hockey pucks work fine. Also, I have made some ramps out of 2x12's stacked two high to get mine on the alignment rack. You need to lift the rear a little to get all the oil out.

Changed mine today where they have a pit. Really easy, by the way, my 98 took exactly 6.5 quarts of Mobile 1 with new filter. Skip :chevy

Hockey pucks work well and the ramps do to if you can block them so they don't slide! The ramps are only goo, if you have a jack for lifting the rear too.
Good luck!

Somebody told me "in a pinch" you can raise up a front corner of the car using a bottle jack & jack stand, then remove the filter and oil plug. Lower the car over a shallow pan so it's level and wait 15 minutes. Then raise the car back up, install the oil plug and a new filter, lower the car, add the oil and you're done.

I've never tried this, but my Mr. Goodwrench has done it successfully. No doubt others will provide feedback on this and other ideas. :yesnod:

WHRITZY, it will be interesting to see how much oil is needed to reach the full mark on the dipstick (in your son's '01). Lots of '01 owners have been posting that it takes 7.0 qts (and not the 6.5 qts posted in the manual). Be aware that GM made a dipstick and dipstick tube change in '01 (no change in the size of the oil pan). I put in 6.5 qts and ended up with a reading of a half qt low on my dipstick. It's another GM "screwup." I did a complete drain by lifting the rear up with a jack...that could also account for the extra half qt of oil that was removed. I measured the drained "factory filled" oil and it came to just a bit over 7.0 qts.
