Doing a brake job tomorrow on the front brakes only. Finally got an AL racing jack that can get under the front.
Can I just push the fluid back into the MS with my C clamp? or do I have to open the bleed valves on each one. I have heard two schools of thought on this.
Thanks in advance.
That's what I though. I usually take off the top of the master also. Thanks
I also place a rag over the opening in case it over flows. The raga will soak up most of the over flow and cut down on clean up. Never had it over flow just a precaution.
If you do not open the bleeders there should be enough room in the Master for the fluid to expand as long as nobody has added brake fluid since new pads were installed. If somebody has topped off the fluid (shouldn't be done) or bled the brakes since then then you will have to assume the brake fluid will overflow the reservoir and make sure you have some way to keep it from running all over.

If you are just driving around the street and not going through a set of track pads in a few days or weeks you want to open your bleeders. You want the old fluid OUT not pushed back. When you do a brake job take a turkey baster and suck out all the old brake fluid you can from the master and refill it. Push the pistons back and get rid of the fluid.
Get some speed bleeders if you have nobody to help you bleed. You can also open all the bleeders and do a gravity bleed if you are not in a rush. get some old containers and some fish tank hose which you attach to the bleeders. Then open it and let it drain. Empty the master first with baster and put new fluid in master so it doesn't run dry. You need to be attentive so you can wax your car as you watch.
Brake fluid is hygroscopic so it absorbs moisture. Leads to corrosion in lines and poor performance as when fluid gets hot the moisture turns to vapors. This gives you a soft pedal & fade when you need them most!
