Default Got Vararm...Need Filter. Ideas???

Just like it says. I have a Vararm intake system. Well, I've actually had it for a while. I was waiting for the warranty to expire before install. After checking it was confirmed that my local service manager is completely lacking a sense of humor. But I digress...

I purchased the VR-B2 system when it was relatively new on the market and still being shipped with the foam filters. If anyone knows a a better filter being produced for the system I'd be very grateful of the information. I've checked the VR website and discovered the've switched to the greefilter filters. I know nothing about them so I'm leary about ordering.

All help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I got a Vararam last November, and it came with a filter that looks like a K&N type. You should be able to get one like that. It seems to seal real well, and after all the crap I've heard about quality, I was pleasantly surprised.

If I am not losing my memory, I believe the currently available Green/Grey filters from Vararam will not fit an older model (including the older B2). I believe you have to cut down one of the housings. I will look for the previous threads.

Update try this for the differences http://www.vararam.com/b2.html

The KN 25-3322 (fits TR-7) needs to have the corners cut (reduce the radius) to fit within the housing. You also have to make a "gasket" as the KN is much thinner than the old Foam filter. I actually epoxied the KN into the housing and disassembled the foam filter and used the outside as the gasket. Worked very well....

When I had the Vararam, I installed the K&N and trimmed it to fit and then siliconed it in place to keep it sealed. Still easy to clean too.

I have the B2 and it doesn't look anyhting like the B2 currently displayed on their website

I think as it says, "The B2 system for the C-5 Corvette has evolved several times over the years for added performance and ease of filter maintenance."

Get the Green Filter it flows better than K&N. Call Vararam or Corvettes of Weschester.

FYI - There are newer AND older versions on the B2.
Per Vararam, the green filter doesn`t fit the EARLIER B2`s properly (later B2 lids have deeper edging/flanges), for the earlier B2`s they offer an K&N type filter along with weather striping as a KIT, for the retro-fit.
On later B2`s the lid is properly designed for the GREEN Filter as noted above and does not require weather stripping or trimming, etc.

I recommend calling Vararam tech dept to verify which specific version you have so that you can order the proper filter.

Rick

P.S. And yes, I know this because I recently ordered a KIT for my earlier B2 directly from Vararam.

When I went to the K&N, Vararam was just releasing the Green Filter. I e-mailed and responded to a thread they supported awhile back, but never got a response. So I went and developed one myself around the K&N filter. seems to work pretty good.

I bought my Vararam last January when the green filters first came out. The grey filter was supposed to drop in-place of the foam unit, and both were of similar construction to the K&N. The green filter flows a little bit better, and required some trimming inside of the older units because it was slightly thicker.

Either Vararam gauze filter should fit well, but you'll need trimming instructions if you purchase the green one.

Thanks everyone, I did not know that.

From Vararam:
"The new VR-B2 unit is the third generation of our record setting VR-B2 system."

I wonder which one I have !!??!!
