D/S rotors crack under racing stress, but if you don't track the car, then don't worry about it. Get the ones you like the look of best.

the only racing I do is drag racing..... and that's like once a month or so.

So are they worth the expense on not ?? And do they work better than stock ones ? The only reason I ask is that I need new rotors.

They are worth it only if you are willing to pay for nicer looking rotors, you will gain no performance. They are a little lighter, but not as much contact area, so it about equals out for performance compared to a blank rotor. If you can, go for slotted only, better looks with no performance loss plus they should be cheaper than D/S

D/S should be out of the question - just not worth the extra money for no performance improvement.

You're asking two different questions: "Are they worth it?" and "Do they work better?" You didn't ask "do they look better?"

From an functional standpoint, they don't work better, and therefore aren't worth it. Only you can answer the "looks better" question.

Have a good one,
Mike

I'm not looking for "do they look better".

I'm needing to get some new rotors and I figured with all the "hoopla" about D/S rotors, I might try a set.

I found a full set (4) of D/S rotors on Ebay for about $165.00 shipped and wanted to know if it's worth buy them over stock replacements.

As I said before they are for show. If you all about go save yourself a lot of moneyand get a set of rotors from NAPA, there about $25 bucks a piece.

The slotted ones are good cleaning the glaze off of your pads if you do some spirted driving.

Buying a better set of brake pads will improve your braking distances. I like Hawk HPS Street pads myself.

If you are a spirted driver and want a just a slotted rotor to clean your pads (scrape off glaze), get them, but skip the the drilled ones.

Here's my take on rotors:

Yes it is, which is why I charge $200, plus core for my exchange. I've done over 200 CF members sets here and never had an unhappy customer. I can swap you out a set with no waiting, as I have them in stock! Check out the gallery on my website, I can match almost any color you want, or do any color/lettering color combo you want. If you want it, I'll figure out a way to get it done!

In that case, stay away from the Ebay stuff. Solid (a.k.a. "blank") rotors from NAPA are definitely the best way to go.

Have a good one,
Mike

Default DOT Brake Fluid

Motorcraft High Performance Dot 3 brake fluid has the highest boiling point of any Dot 3. It is $6.00 list price. Change out your brake fluid every 2 years or before and after every road track event with high performance driving.

Atlanta Corvette sells the Delco Performance Drilled/Slotted rotors for $65 each. Add in $200 for powdercoating by me, and $100 for GM ceramic pads from gmpartshouse.com and you are at $560

Flush your fluid before a track event and then all you need to do is bleed off your fluid after the track event.

Thanks to all of you for your input. I think you all are correct, and I will attempt to paint my calipers. However, I like the idea of getting it done for a 30 pack, but the idea of drunks working on my brakes I am not so sure I like! lol
