Default High Oil Pressure

I have seen all the posts on the oil pressure sensor failing and pegging out the oil pressure gauge. My gauge usually reads about 44psi. My question: Is there and condition other than a sensor failure that could actually cause the oil pressure to increase to 80psi? I know in the past there were always concerns about low oil pressure, but I can think of no mechanical condition that would send the pressure through the roof?

If it reads 0 key on engine not running and 80lbs when you start it, it's the sender.

Yes, running your car to 4000rpm or beyond would cause it to increase to around 80psi

Colder oil will increase pressure at startup also.

Usually when the pressure sender fails, you will get a reading with the key on and the engine not running.

If your dash gage reads 80 psi, and the DIC indicates 127 - 128 PSI, your sender unit is bad.

I'm dealing with this now as well. Mine finally went bad after numersous years of faithful service. I replaced it with the GM new number 12573107 and a month later, its dead again. I suspect its leaking as well since I can smell a slight oil burning odor too. I ordered the aftermarket PS308 which should arrive today. Will try to gen up a relocation tubing setup so that I won't have to pull the intake again after this. Wish someone had a simple extension tube with the right fittings on it already, like a stainless flex tube. Can't find anything so far.

Mine started doing this last night. I have been trying to find some pictures of where this is located. Can someone hook me up?

I'm just waiting for one of the wonderfully talented forum sponsors to produce a kit, maybe with the later Buick sender and I'll be there in a heartbeat! Is this mike on, can you hear me!
