I will be visiting the service manager in on Monday to take a copy of this thread and to see why he is hiring so poorly. Clearly all of you are right on with what I should do and I will promise to report back to you what the SM said. Can't wait to hear the response!
I just heard a short news sound byte stating there was a massacre at a local El Paso, TX dealership when an irate customer confronted the service manager and his staff over hiring practices...
Whenever I've had problems with a dealership, I've always followed the practice suggested by Bill Curlee. You'll get much better results than throwing a tantrum.
dexron 3 atf or higher you said it correctly! i would take my car and go to another dealer because they obviously are idiots! it even has a sticker on the bottom of the trans specifically stating "atf dexron 3"

If I was the OWNER of the Dealership I would want to know if the quality of Techs and Managers in my employ weren't up to the "task." Why I can remember (in the 18 hundreds) when I was in the Dealerships we were sent to factory schools and tested/graded on our skills and "rated" as "A", "B" "C" or "D" Mechanics labeling us as to our qualifications. That way an "A" rated mechanic (the highest paid) wasn't wasted doing "D" level (one level up from the "lotboy") work and visa versa. BTW Chrysler used ATF in some of their manual gearboxes back in the 1950s.
all of the dealerships in our area are full of donkeys, including the service managers. do yourself a favor and work on the car yourself. i am speaking from expireince.
thanks for all the suggestions on how to handle the situation. I went in and asked the service managers (yep, there are two at this dealership) to let me tell them a story. I told them that perhaps I had an opportunity for them to educate their teams, and then i proceeded to tell them about my phone call and all. I told them that I wasn't mad but that considering what their service writer told me I would bet that other Vette owners might not be too keen on hearing my experience. One of them told me that as a Chev dealer they had to recommend GM anything only. But in the next breath he admited that a lot of customers bring in their own fluids, parts, etc and they service the vehicle to the customers request. I told them that I was on the forum and getting advice from real Corvette enthusiasts, and as such, my trust is with you all. Both of them dropped their jaws, sat completely silent for a moment then wanted to know who the tech was. I told them it was their job to find out because i only talked to the service writer. it was as if i had poked them in the eye with a hot iron, but i never raised my voice or got excited. I simply said that my car wouldn't be back, and that they had a real opportunity to "educate" at thier next meeting. I left them with a puzzled look on their faces, surprised that i wasn't screaming or demanding. I was calm, cool, collected knowing that my brothers and sisters on the forum were my protectors and educators. In the five minutes those service managers spent with me I got the message across, and my car the heck out of there. If they hadn't heard about the forum I can assure you they do now.
Thanks for your help in this and yes, it seems like some changes will be made at that dealership and not too soon. I hope this helps others and by the way, I got the tranny fluid changed somewhere else.

Dont try to blast the manager and cause a scene!! It will make you out as the bad guy. Just confront him/her with the facts and ask him why the technician did not know what the correct fluid was.
They may try to tell you that it is not a GM DEXTRON. As long as it meets all GM specs, your on the correct side of the line!
100%, no need to blast him..he was trying to protect your car. Would you rather have a dealer who will just dump in whatever the customer says to?
customer: "um yeah put in motor oil in my trans"
dealer/tech: "you got it!"
