Default painted calipers

I'm going to paint the calipers on my 98 vette but I want to keep the letters on the caliper white, any ideas on how to do this and have them look neat? Thanks

Before you paint the calipers, apply some chapstick to the letters. The paint will not stick to the chapstick and you will be able to take a tooth pic and pull the new paint off the letters.

Good Luck!

I painted mine and just wiped the paint off the letters as I went, I used a two part epoxy caliper paint from Eastwood products it works great and stays shiny and does not burn.

I've seen decals for the calipers on "that" auction that come in a number of colors, plus chrome and brushed metal and are inexpensive but don't how the adhesive on them will stand up to the heat that calipers see.

Maybe someone on here has used them and can give an input on durability.

I painted over letters and then used razor blade to 'cut' paint off letters.

I also used an emery board to shine the letter up.

what kind of paint are you using. i thought about this but thought the paint had to be heat resistant or something.

I used a small block of wood with the sand paper wrapped around it. Took the paint right off the letters.

THIS IS THE ONLY way to do it, IMHO!! - Took me a whole 5 minutes if that to remove the paint w/ a razor blade when I was done! No way could I have saved time by masking the letters or by putting chap stick on them.

Then after you razor blade the letters, if you want, use an emery board to shine them up - I didn't have to do that.

some say it has to be high temp, some say not - I used High Temp paint, I can see the can, but I can't remember the brand, duh!!

Do a search on the Forum and you will find it - maybe search for "Ford Red" since the brand of paint I'm thinking about, Ford Red was the closest color to the red that GM puts on the calipers.

No sooner posted, than I remembered the paint name: DupliColor

When I painted my calipers, I too just painted over the letters then used an exacto knife to scrape the paint off the letters.

I got the red paint kit from pep boys for $15 and it matches the paint perfect, then I used the razor blade method for the lettering

better question, what did you guys use to clean the calipers before you painted them? did you disconnect brake lines from the car, or masked it off and leave them attached?

(i am going to be doing this withing the next month or two) i plan to shine the letters up as well.

I just painted mine a few times and then used a silver paint pen for the letters. Been on a couple of years now and looks as good as ever.

Brake cleaner works well, but DON'T get it on your car paint, cause it will leave SERIOUS bad marks!!

Also, I left my brake lines connected and taped everything off so that I didn't have to bleed the brakes (as you have to if you disconnect the brake lines)

I did a pretty good job of taping the brakelines and the entire wheel area off - I didn't want overspray on the suspension or on the black of the wheelwell - I also covered most of the car w/ a cover like bodyshops use - go to your local body shop, and get some plastic like they use to cover cars in their paint booth - cover your car w/ it - the more careful prep work you do, the less likely you are to get overspray someplace where you don't want it.
