Intake & exhaust changes and the Computer?
Question is, and it's probably been beat to death, when I got the car the bellows just in front of the throttle body had been changed to a smooth one and the stock aluminum pieces (2 ea.) in front & back of the MAF have been changed to aftermarket ones. That's it for mod's.
I bought Borla Stinger, the 2 large tip, system and the Halltech Stinger Intake. The muffler change should lean it out a bit and the intake should lean it out a bit too. Will the computer be able to pick this up and make changes without have a light show go off with codes?
Thanks
Mick
When you install headers (which you eventually will, trust me
Edit: just saw you're in Cali...sorry, no long tube headers for you...oops) then you'll want to re-tune the fuel map. And don't expect the fuel mixture to lean or richen like a carb-based engine....it don't work like that. I think this is how it works if memory serves me correctly...been since last summer since I was tweaking my computer and I haven't thought through it since then.......(and someone will refine this answer if it's wrong) At full throttle, the computer enrichens the fuel mixture by a set amount and adds it to the computer-corrected "normal driving" settings (part-throttle and less than 3500 (?) RPM). Well, your normal driving settings adjust for the increased air flow at part throttle, i.e., add fuel according to what the O2 sensor is saying, and when you add the fuel enrichment at WOT, you end up with a rich condition and soot on the back of the car (because your volumetric efficiency falls as your RPMs go up, which means if you get a 10% increase in V.E. at low RPMs, that could mean 8.5% more fuel needed, but at WOT could only be 6.5% increase with 8.5% more fuel....well, it gets a little complicated)...., if you drive like me you end up with soot on the back all the time (in no time at all!)
Why do I have soot if I'm tweaking the computer.....haven't gotten to that part (fuel enrichment) of the fuel map yet
(moving to new cities.....selling houses...moving....you know how it goes....)Oh, and aspirin doesn't work for mod fever, so start saving your money now!

To get more HP out of any Mod, you would need to have a Tune done with the LS1 software(or possibly hand-held tuner) to take better advantage of the more free flowing mods per say.
Good luck and enjoy.
TopCat, you're right. I'm already thinkin headers & x pipe. Since I'm here in Cali, why no long tube headers? What short tubes are recommended?
FrankTank & HRDTOPC54FUN, thanks a bunch for the "quick & dirty" education.
A HyperTech Part. # 30028 came with the car, the previous owner never installed a program from it so I may play with it after the intake & Stingers get installed. This new hot rodding is different than the old stuff. Computers, MAF, Throttle Body, CAT back exhaust, it works though.
Mick
These new cars with electronic everything are killer to hot rod, just have more expensive tuning equipment... think I'll frame my old timing light
