Someone with a bad ECBM should take a couple of hi-res pics of the front and back of the board before and after you get it back to see what they are replacing. It might only be 20 bucks in parts.

I have an 02 EBTCM that I took apart. It not all that easy but isnt impossible either. There are some parts that you can change on your own but, you would need to seperate the upper board from the lower board. Here is what your up against:

Mdule connected to the BPMV

Module removed form BPMV

Module inside case "back side" that connects to BPMV:

The module and case are filled with a silicone that makes seperation of the module difficult!

The metal cans on the top board are the electromagnetic driver coils that open or shut the poppet valves inside the BPMV

Here is the top of the upper board:

Under the upper board is a micro processor with surface mounted components, The board sits in a chassis and is sealed inside a stickey guey silicone gel. Your NOT going to fix that board!!

Once you get your EBTCM back from being repaired,,,,are you going to bust it back apart and take pictures of it?

Hope the pictures clear up some stuff.

Never seen one apart before, so I didnt know.
I fix the machines that make microchips for a living, so I might have the needed skills to fix one. Hopefully Ill never have to find out.

Also, I contacted him. Altho his web site only mentions the K-H EBCM repair, his $150 price with $8 S/H also applies to the Delphi EBCM used in the C5 Z06. keep this site posted as to your experience with his repair.

I shipped my EBCM off to them on Wed of last week (I was leaving that day to go on vacation so why not send it off)... I got it back today (Tuesday) and put it back on. At first I still had the ABS, TC and AH errors so I was getting pretty mad. But I stayed calm.. deleted all the codes.. and tried again. Worked like a charm!

What was the secret to separating the halves without damaging the unit? Did you apply heat?

Do you mean seperating the EBTCM from the BPMV or seperating the EBTCM from its aluminum housing??

The housing is stuck together with a black synthetic fabric seal that has adhesive on both sides. It will come apart. I inserted a thin scraper blade into the joint about 1/8" in a couple locations and it just popped apart.

Seperating the EBTCM electrinics from the housing is a BITCH! You have to pry and pull and pry and pull and pry and pull......until the RTV breaks loose!

I also need to open the case to get at the electronics. I really don't want to spend all that money just for a stupid relay that the engineers should not have used in the first place. When I pry mine, the case metal starts to crumble. I was wondering if a solvent or some heat would work. Thanks for the post and the reply.

If you use a small face prying implement, yea, it could damage the case. I used WIDE 1" blade scrapers and drove then into the seam about 1/8" deep (after I removed the screws). After the scrapers were all inserted into the seam, I used even pressure and then the RTV broke loose. Once the RTV breaks loose, it still a bit rough coming out. Keep working on it, you will get it apart.

I need to do this one of these days, but getting to it is going to be a bitch with the Vortech blower directly above it.
