I would like to know what you guys think is the best aceleration mod for $1500? No nitrous. Gear is 3:15
My vette is stock with the exception of the Z06 exhaust and X-pipe. I also have the Z06 Intake, not yet installed.
I rode in a fellow forum members car this holiday and in my opinion, the 373 gears are the best bang for the buck. I'm getting mine soon, plus, while I'm there, I'm going to add the 3000 stall torque converter.bob.
You already have performance gears in the 3:15's and though they are not as nice as the 3:42's there is only a 9% difference between the two and really not worth the cost of upgrading.
The best upgrade for acceleration with your mods is a good torque converter. Do some research and see which one works best for how you use your car. A lot of people recommend the Yank 3200 with the 3:15 gears.
That should give you some great acceleration for less than $1500 and you will still have a street car.
Gears best bang for the buck. I have 3:73's with a converter - whole new car!
swapping to 3.42 gears is NOT enough of a change - HOWEVER, swap to 3.73 gears and a SS3200 OR SS3600 stall converter, and you will be VERY HAPPY! if you do the labor yourself, you should come close to being able to do both of the above for about $1,500 if you get used parts.
Yes, I do have an A4. What I'm looking for is less than 4-5 second 0-60 times, but maintain my topend speed (175ish), if I ever want to get things blurry. Also, I do a lot of highway driving, cruising 80-85, so cruise rpm is important.
My first thought was to get there using power mods, ie: headers, Z06 heads and cam. I want driveablility to be as close to stock as possible. Headers are definitely in the works, as soon as I can decide which is the best. Stuck between LG's, AR's and Kooks.
If I go with a TQ, I dont want that spinning up feel. Would 3k be too much TQ?

You can make your car go quicker or faster for $1500 but not both. Example - I had a '56 with blue printed 265/245 and 5.13 rear. With 28" slicks, it would turn 12.26 - 12.27's at 106 - 107 mph, but the string was out. The same car with a 3.08 at 4800 rpm in high gear was doing 143 mph, all out, drag limited.
When did you have your toy up to 175ish? My '98 MN6 starts laying down at about 145 in 6th (either drag limited or can't get it into the fat part of the hp/torque curve), turning about 3600 rpm. Maybe I need to try spooling it up in 5th.
