That would be me, not in my 99 but my neighbors. Sure glad he had a mag drain plug as he wouldn't have known otherwise as the engine was still running fine and no noises as only one side of the rocker had lost it's bearings...
But after researching it, lots of members had lost bearings from rockers.

Yes, I use magnets in the drain plugs and on the filters of all my cars.

Take a look

For $3 at the stealership, it couldn't hurt. For the record, I didn't see anything on it on my last oil change..

I've got them on everything. Oil filter and drain plugs for oil, tranny and diff. Well worth the investment!

I would like to know as well. I know I can drill and place my own magnets on these plugs, but I would rather just replace the stockers.
I have posted before trying to find the thread and pitch of the Vette plugs........but no luck.

There are two big magnets already in the case of the tranny (assuming the C5 T-56 is basically the same as the T-56 in my Z-28), so I don't think you'll get much metal on the drain plug (down on one end, not close to any gears, etc.)

Now, the drain plug on the diff, that'd be something of value.

BTW, what kind of metal do you think is going to be grabbed by a filter magnet that won't already be embedded in the filter media?

Have a good one,
Mike

Interesting point, but I have seen pictures of cut open filters showing lots of metal particles stuck to the filter mags........guess they all could be bogus. But for the $15 I spent, can't really hurt.

No, that wasn't my intent; just that those metal particles would have been picked up by the filter media.
