From what I read the C6 z51 shock were more money than the C6 z06 shocks. I researched this topic extensively last year (including the C6 z51 shocks). I decided on the Bilstein HD shocks since many members thought the Bilstein Sports, 04 Z06 and the C6 zo6 shocks were too firm for them on road (they did not race and used the interstate regular).

The Bilstein HD shocks were softer and offered better control on the road. I have the Z51 on my 01 coupe with only 30K miles and the Bilstein HD were slightly firmer but had WAY better control. It eliminated the occasional wheel hop on hard takeoffs and really absorbed the interstate bridges and overpasses much better (use to bounce twice before settling down now just once) and makes me feel more secure on rough curvy roads. I was very happy with the results. If you don’t race and you just want a better shock then the Bilstein HD is the way to go. Hope this helps.

firstvette99,

Heres a little tip. If your interest in some C6 Z51 shocks, watch carfefully and often the C6 Parts For Sale section. Lots of folks overthere are changing to HD Bilsteins or Coil Overs. I found a set For Sale with 900 miles on them for short money.

I'm replaceing my C6 Z06 Shocks on my C5 this spring.

I too found the C6 Z06 shocks too stiff.

And yes, the C6 Z51 Shocks are more expensive than the C5 Z06's.

good luck,
c5firstimer

I installed Bilstein HDs and feel it was well worth the price of admission.

I agree!

Way too many post of unhappy CF members that installed shocks that are TOO firm! Unless you race or your into 100% performance ALL the time (no long trips to car shows or no spouse in the right seat) then HD is perfect.
